Telangan CM Revanth to visit Midjil, where his political journey began two decades ago

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will visit Midjil mandal in Mahabubnagar district on Saturday (July 4, 2026) to mark a milestone that is as personal as it is political. The visit is being billed not as a routine government programme but as a thanksgiving gesture to the people who first elected him and launched a political journey that eventually led him to the State’s top office.

First elected as ZPTC 20 years ago

It was in 2006 that Mr. Reddy entered electoral politics, winning as an independent ZPTC member from Midjil. The victory marked the beginning of a steady rise through Telangana’s political landscape. Within a year, he won the Mahabubnagar local bodies MLC election, again as an independent candidate, before joining the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and securing consecutive victories from the Kodangal Assembly constituency in 2009 and 2014.

Decisive turn in 2017

His political trajectory took a decisive turn after he joined the Congress in 2017. Winning the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seat brought him wider recognition, while his leadership as Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president helped steer the party to power in the 2023 Assembly elections. He was sworn in as Chief Minister on December 7, 2023.

Mr. Reddy, who reached the top office in the State, would commemorate the two decade milestone in the mandal where his public life began. Sources close to him point out that Midjil holds a special emotional significance as the place that gave him his first political identity and the confidence to pursue a larger role in public life.

The Chief Minister’s schedule reflects that sentiment. He will begin the day by offering prayers at the Urukonda temple and participating in special rituals. He is also slated to lay the foundation stone for temple development works. A lunch interaction with local elders, former associates, senior leaders and supporters who were part of his early political journey is expected to follow.

The visit will also include the unveiling of statues of former leader Gopal Reddy and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar near Midjil. Mr. Reddy is then scheduled to address a public meeting where he is expected to reflect on his political journey and acknowledge the role played by the people of the mandal in shaping it.
