Andhra Pradesh witnessed a little rainfall between 8.30 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday, despite a heavy rainfall forecast, according to the realtime data available with the Directorate of Economics and Statistics.

A few places in Srikakulam and Prakasam districts received around 35 mm.

According to the 3 p.m. bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, the upper air cyclonic circulation over east-central and north-east Bay of Bengal persisted at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday. It is likely to move westwards. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the north and central Bay of Bengal on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

The weather system is likely to concentrate into a depression and cross the South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh coasts on Saturday, according to the IMD.

An orange alert has been issued for Eluru, NTR, Guntur, Palnadu and Prakasam districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected on Friday. A yellow alert is in place for Srikakulam, Parvathipuram-Manyam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Bapatla and SPSR Nellore districts where heavy rainfall is expected.

Squally winds, with a speed reaching up to 60 kmph, are likely to blow in coastal areas and light to moderate rainfall may continue until September 29. People are advised to follow the government advisory during thunderstorms. Fishermen have been advised to not venture into the sea.
