Two students drown in Kottayam

Two students drowned after venturing into a deep quarry pond while bathing with friends at Kodithottam near Erumely in Kottayam on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Ashlin, 19, an automobile engineering student, and Asher, 16, a Plus One student, both natives of Kodithottam near here.

According to police, the two were part of a five member group that had gone to the abandoned quarry pond for a swim. They reportedly slipped into a deep section of the water and disappeared.

A search operation launched by local residents with the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Services led to the recovery of their bodies.

The bodies have been shifted for a post-mortem examination. The Erumely police have registered a case .
