Lone station in ASR district receives 107.5 mm rain, other places A.P. receive light showers

A lone station in Alluri Sitharama Raju district received very heavy rainfall of 107.5 mm, while other places in Andhra Pradesh recorded moderate rainfall between 8.30 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday.

According to the realtime rainfall information available with the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), the northern part of the State received moderate rainfall, while many in the Central parts received light showers.

Chief amounts of rainfall received by various stations include: Thondangi in Kakinada district (49.25 mm), Kakarapadu in ASR district (46 mm), Commonpoint area in Visakhapatnam (45.5 mm), Nakkapalli in Anakapalli district (40.35 mm). The remaining stations received below 40 mm rain on Saturday.

The wet spell on Saturday brought some relief to the northern parts of the State, where all districts, except for Anakapalli, have reported deficit rainfall. The State’s deficit stands at 27.5%. More rain may be in store for this region for three days from July 1, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD)-Amaravati.

The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rain for the coastal areas of the State on Sunday as well. Light rainfall is likely to occur at a few places in the districts of Srikakulam, NTR, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, Chittoor, and Tirupati on Sunday.

Thunderstorms, light rain and gusty winds are likely to blow across the State till June 30. There is an upper air cyclonic circulation over north Telangana and its neighbourhood, and a trough runs from coastal Andhra Pradesh to Madhya Maharashtra across cyclonic circulation over north Telangana.

Another upper air cyclonic circulation lies over west-central Bay of Bengal and its adjoining south Coastal Andhra Pradesh at 5.8 km above mean sea level, according to the IMD.
