A mobile phone with a SIM card was seized from a prisoner at the Central jail at Pallikkunnu, marking the second such recovery from the prison within days.

The phone was recovered from Utham Patra, a native of Odisha serving a sentence in a narcotic case.

The jail authorities found the handset concealed in the fourth block of the prison during an inspection. Based on a complaint lodged by the jail superintendent, the Kannur Town police registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.

The latest seizure comes just days after another mobile phone was recovered from the jail.
