Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary M. Veerapandian has once again said that the DMK and the AIADMK can merge or come together in the interests of the people of the State.
The CPI leader made this remark at Kumbakonam on June 27 when he was asked to respond to a narrative in political circles that the DMK and the AIADMK should not merge or come together to champion the cause of people. “Both of them are democratic forces. Both can merge or join hands in a fight for people. We have been telling this even when we were in alliance with the DMK. The problem is the AIADMK’s alliance with the BJP”, he said and added that the BJP should be isolated.
Responding to a question on the appointment of Venkata Narayana as the Tamil Nadu’s Special Representative in New Delhi, Mr. Veerapandian said although it was the prerogative of the State government, it would be better to appoint a Tamilian and the current appointment had caused disquiet.
With respect to the stand of the present government on Thirupparankundram and Mekedatu issues, the CPI leader said the government’s stand on these issues was welcome since it retained the stand of previous government.
