The Thiruvananthapuram City police have filed a complaint with the State Police Chief (SPC) in connection with the bail received by the ninth accused in the case involving the assault of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] workers.

The accused, Harish Kumar, was granted bail by the court on Wednesday after the prosecution led by public prosecutor T. Geena Kumari reportedly failed to effectively oppose the bail application, despite a police report recommending otherwise.

According to the police, the prosecution’s stand in court contradicted the investigation team’s position. The investigators had argued that bail should not be granted because crucial evidence, including the weapon allegedly used in the attack, was yet to be recovered.

The City police have alleged that the prosecutor ignored the police report and effectively aided the accused in securing bail.

Moreover, the police are likely to recommend the appointment of a special public prosecutor to handle the case.
