Shivamogga police conducted a comprehensive security check at the district court on June 24 following a mail received by the Principal District and Sessions Judge threatening a cylinder bomb explosion on the premises.

In the morning, court officials informed the police about receiving a mail threatening a blast, which was addressed to the Principal District and Session Judge. In response, dog squads and police personnel armed with metal detectors rushed to the court. They searched the premises thoroughly and screened all visitors. No suspicious items were found during the operation.

Police Commissioner B. Nikhil supervised the search and surveillance operation.

Addressing the media, Principal District and Sessions Judge G.A. Manjunatha said that he had reported the threat to the police without delay. “Such incidents have become a habit for some people. Similar threatening mails have been received at district courts in Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Hassan, and Dharwad. The content of these mails is largely identical,” he said.

Judge Manjunatha further stated that, recently, unidentified individuals had sent messages to advocates and court officials seeking monetary assistance while impersonating judges. “These appear to be part of a larger scam targeting the judicial system,” he said.

The court officials have filed a complaint with the Jayanagar police.
