Shivamogga MP B.Y. Raghavendra met Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot in Bengaluru on Tuesday and submitted a representation urging him to advise the State government to establish a High Court Circuit Bench in Shivamogga.

Mr. Raghavendra highlighted the district’s geographical advantages and its status as a major administrative, educational, commercial and transportation hub in central Karnataka.

A Circuit Bench in Shivamogga would better serve the neighbouring districts of Chikkamagaluru, Davangere and Chitradurga, he said. Such a bench would make access to justice more convenient and effective for litigants and the legal fraternity across Malnad and central Karnataka.

Mr. Raghavendra sought to ensure that Shivamogga district remains under the jurisdiction of the principal High Court Bench in Bengaluru until a separate bench is established in the district. He also highlighted the protests from various sections in Shivamogga against the proposal to shift the district under the proposed Mangaluru Bench.

Linking Shivamogga to the Mangaluru Bench would not adequately serve the interests of litigants from Malnad and central Karnataka, he argued.

Bengaluru Advocates’ Association president Vivek Subba Reddy accompanied Mr. Raghavendra during the meeting with the Governor.
