The 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations at the Mysore palace on Sunday witnessed a heartwarming display of inclusion and empowerment, as 28 visually impaired children stole the spotlight with a disciplined and inspiring yoga performance.
Organised in collaboration with the Ministry of AYUSH and Myra School of Business, the event saw the children confidently perform a series of yoga asanas, demonstrating coordination, and determination. Their performance drew widespread appreciation from dignitaries, guests and yoga enthusiasts who had gathered at the iconic venue.
The children’s spirited participation underscored the message that yoga transcends physical limitations and is accessible to all. Their enthusiasm and commitment created an atmosphere of positivity and inspiration, making the celebrations particularly memorable.
In a step towards promoting inclusive yoga practices, MP for Mysuru-Kodagu Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar released a training manual designed for yoga instructors working with individuals with visual impairment.
The manual provides specialised techniques and practical guidance to help instructors effectively teach and support visually impaired practitioners. Organisers described the publication as a milestone in advancing inclusive yoga education and ensuring that the benefits of yoga reach every section of society.
The initiative is expected to serve as an important resource for yoga trainers, educational institutions and organisations working to make yoga more accessible for persons with visual disabilities, according to a press release.
