The Muslim Youth League (MYL) has voiced strong concern and dissatisfaction over the United Democratic Front (UDF) government’s stance on the PM SHRI scheme.

As a form of protest, the MYL Malappuram constituency committee organised a programme in Malappurm on Thursday evening (June 18, 2026). It sent a letter to General Education Minister N. Samsudheen urging the government not to alter the UDF’s position on the scheme.

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), which currently holds the General Education portfolio in the UDF Cabinet, had earlier taken a firm stand against PM SHRI when the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government entered into an agreement with the Centre to adopt the initiative. Now under the UDF government, the PM SHRI issue continues to be politically sensitive in Kerala, particularly with the IUML overseeing the General Education department.

The government has constituted a Cabinet subcommittee to examine and implement the scheme. Mr. Samsudheen heads the committee which has Higher Education Minister Roji M. John, Tourism Minister P.C. Vishnunadh and Excise Minister M. Liju.

MYL Malappuram constituency president Shafi Kadengal, general secretary Ummerkutty Morayur, treasurer Sahal Vadakkumuri, and executive committee members Afeef Paravath, C.P. Sadikali, Subair Moozhikkal, Nabeel Arimbra, Samad Poothanaparamba, Vahid Morayur, and Hafid Pari led the protest by sending the letter of opposition.
