The State Human Rights Commission has come down on Education department officials for refusing to pay the pension of a headmaster who retired in March 2021.

“It should be counted as negligence on the part of the authorities and a violation of the human rights of the complainant,” said Commission judicial member K. Baijunath. He was referring to a complaint by Ahamed Kutty V.P., who retired in 2021 as headmaster of Cherulal High School, Kurumbathoor.

The Commission found that the Malappuram District Education Officer and other officials under the Deputy Director of Education had delayed Mr. Kutty’s pension despite its sanction by the Accountant General on January 20, 2021.

Mr. Baijunath ordered the Director of General Education to promptly release Mr. Kutty’s pension and other benefits, including gratuity. The Commission is to be updated on the action taken within a month.
