Parts of south and central Kerala are expected to receive moderate to heavy rains for the next two days, influenced by the weather system over the Bay of Bengal. The existing low-pressure area over north Odisha and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and Gangetic West Bengal is likely to become less marked during the next 12 hours, according to a weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday.

However, a fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal on Thursday. Moving nearly westwards, it is very likely to concentrate into a depression over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts on Friday. It is very likely to cross the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts around September 27. This is likely to intensify the rain conditions over Kerala for about three days.

A yellow alert has been issued for seven districts – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam – on Thursday, where rain in the range of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is likely during the next 24 hours. Six districts were put on yellow alert on Friday, and five districts in north Kerala on Saturday.
