Actor Ansiba Hassan has approached the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Thripunithura, in Ernakulam district seeking a direction to register a First Information Report (FIR) over a complaint filed by her against fellow actor Lakshmipriya and a female police officer of the Thripunithura women’s cell.

Ms. Hassan, a former joint secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), had in her complaint accused the association vice-president Lakshmipriya of filing a false complaint against her, and Reshma, sub-inspector of Thripunithura Women’s cell, of subjecting her to harassment and unlawful detention in the name of verifying the allegations against her.

In her complaint dated June 13, 2026 filed before the court, she stated that she has “exhausted the remedies” available under Sections 173 (1) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and hence was constrained to approach the court. She requested the court to issue directions to register an FIR under Section 175 (3) of the BNSS.

The actor had approached the court after the Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) ruled out the possibility of registering a case over a complaint filed by her against Ms. Lakshmipriya and the female police officer.

The ACP submitted his report after a preliminary investigation, which included recording the statements of the people involved and examining CCTV footage from the Thripunithura station. The officer has reportedly informed the District Police Chief that Ms. Lakshmipriya filed the complaint against Ms. Hassan based on an ambiguous message sent by her that allegedly caused troubles in Ms. Lakshmipriya’s family.

The woman police officer only discharged her duty by calling Ms. Hassan to the station for verifying the allegations and there was no question of unlawful detention, the ACP reportedly informed his superior officer. The ACP had recorded the statement of Ms. Hassan on May 31. The police are also of the view that the complaint filed by Ms. Lakshmipriya against Ms. Hassan does not merit the registration of an FIR.

Ms. Hassan said that she she decided to file a police complaint as she felt “insulted” with the act of SI Reshma who allegedly allowed Ms. Lakshmipriya and her husband to join her while “interrogating” her in the name of verifying the complaint against her. Ms. Lakshmipriya and the woman police officer had earlier denied the allegations raised by Ms. Hassan.
