The Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Kalaburagi, conducted its sixth graduation ceremony on Saturday, conferring MBBS degrees upon 156 students from the batch of 2020.

Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Livelihood Sharan Prakash Patil, who was the chief guest, could not attend the event owing to an official meeting in Bengaluru. However, he connected virtually to address the graduating doctors.

Sujata Rathod, director of the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Bengaluru, who is currently on an official visit to the United Kingdom, also conveyed her best wishes to the students. Professor Emeritus P.S. Shankar attended as the guest of honour and urged the graduates to strive for great success in their lives.

The event was presided over by Umesh S.R., dean and director of GIMS. In his presidential address, he outlined the various academic achievements of GIMS students and detailed the ongoing development projects within the institution. He highlighted the critical importance of evolving technology in the healthcare sector and discussed the necessary steps young medical professionals must take to overcome contemporary challenges.

The ceremony was attended by Ajaykumar, Principal, Shivakumar C.R., Medical Superintendent, Sandeep V.H., along with four Deputy Medical Superintendents, heads of various departments (HODs), teaching staff, students, and their parents.

The institution honoured subject-wise toppers across 14 separate departments. Shrushti S. Shastri emerged as the star performer of the batch, securing the top rank in seven subjects as well as across three academic phases, ultimately winning the award for the overall topper of the batch.
