An early morning robbery was reported from Mannuthy in Thrissur on Sunday, where a three-member gang allegedly broke into a house, tied up the house owner and decamped with gold and cash.

The incident took place at the residence of Somasekharan, a native of Vettikkal, near Don Bosco School in Ollurkara. According to the victim, the gang gained entry by breaking open the grill door and carried out the theft between 2 a.m. and 2.30 a.m.

Somasekharan, who was alone at the house, said he woke up after hearing noises and found two men searching through the house while another stood near him. When he tried to raise an alarm, the intruder allegedly gagged him with a pillow and threatened him with a screwdriver-like weapon.

“The men were speaking in Hindi,” the house owner told the police, adding that they warned him to remain silent. The assailants later tied his hands and gagged him with cloth before fleeing with around 40 sovereigns of gold and ₹50,000 in cash.

After freeing himself, the victim alerted the police. The Mannuthy police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
