Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi on Tuesday (September 23, 2025) called on Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya. Their discussion focused on advancing bilateral defence cooperation, particularly maritime security, and continued engagement in Indian-hosted initiatives, including the Admiral’s Cup, international fleet reviews, and the biennial MILAN naval interaction.

Admiral Tripathi on Monday (September 22, 2025) began a four-day official visit to Sri Lanka to further deepen bilateral naval ties, and explore opportunities for cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region.

During the visit, the Naval chief also interacted with several senior Sri Lankan dignitaries, including the Deputy Defence Minister, Air Vice Marshal, Defence Secretary, and several others. The engagements underscored a shared resolve to enhance interoperability, strengthen naval collaboration, and explore avenues for joint training and operational synergy.

On Monday (September 22, 2025), Admiral Tripathi laid a wreath at the Indian Peace Keeping Force memorial in Colombo, honouring the valour of Indian soldiers, and reaffirming the historic bonds of shared sacrifice between the two nations.

Admiral Tripathi also addressed participants at the National Defence College in Colombo, highlighting the historical, cultural, and strategic linkages in the Indian Ocean Region. Credible capability, and deeper cooperation, and technological transformation in the face of evolving maritime challenges, were imperative, he said. Admiral Tripathi while citing Indo-Sri Lankan success in anti-piracy and narcotics interdiction missions as models of synergy.

A deck reception, hosted on September 22 onboard INS Satpura in Colombo, attended by Sri Lankan dignitaries, including Harshana Nanayakkara, Minister of Justice and National Integration, and the Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha, celebrated shared values of friendship, trust, and cooperation.

The visit reaffirmed India’s steadfast commitment to building capacity, fostering military-to-military ties, and promoting regional peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region.
