The first session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly after Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay-led government assumed office and won the trust vote, is set to begin with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar’s address to the House at 10 a.m. on June 18, 2026.

Speaking to journalists in his chamber at the Secretariat in Chennai on Friday (June 5), Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar announced that the Assembly session would begin with the Governor’s address on June 18. Details regarding the number of days of the session would be communicated after the Business Advisory Committee meeting, he said.

Decision on AIADMK petitions

Asked if any decision had been taken with respect to the petitions submitted by two groups of MLAs of the AIADMK legislature party, who later came to a truce, Mr. Prabhakar said, “No decision has been taken in this regard. The matter is under consideration. The decision will be announced later.”

On the likelihood of live telecast of the entire Assembly proceedings, the Speaker said, “After watching the Assembly session live during the vote of confidence, many people, particularly youngsters, expressed their desire to watch the entire Assembly proceedings live. We will take an appropriate decision on it.”
