BMRCL to induct two more trains on Yellow Line from June 3, improve frequency

Nearly 10 months after the Yellow Line was opened to the public in August 2025, and amid the gradual induction of rolling stock, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will induct two additional trainsets from Wednesday.

The move will increase the total number of trains operating on the corridor to 10. The Yellow Line connects R.V. Road and Bommasandra and has witnessed growing ridership since its launch. However, the pace of train induction has remained slow, resulting in overcrowded trains and inconvenience to commuters on the corridor.

In a release on Tuesday, the BMRCL stated that the induction of the additional trainsets would enable more frequent services, particularly during peak hours when passenger demand is high.

Revised schedule

With the revised schedule, trains on the Yellow Line will run at seven-minute intervals during peak hours on weekdays, an improvement from the current nine-minute frequency. During non-peak hours from Monday to Friday, trains will operate every 10 minutes instead of the existing 14-minute interval.

For weekend commuters, the BMRCL has announced that trains would run at a uniform frequency of 10 minutes throughout Saturdays and Sundays.  The corporation said that the enhanced service pattern is expected to provide a smoother travel experience and help accommodate increasing passenger numbers on the corridor.

The BMRCL clarified that there would be no change in the timings of the first and last trains departing from the terminal stations of R.V. Road and Bommasandra. The existing operating hours will continue to remain in force throughout the week.

The revised schedule will come into effect from Wednesday.

Trains underwent a 20-day testing

The ninth and tenth trainsets inducted into the Yellow Line were dispatched from Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems Limited in late April and early May. Following their arrival in Bengaluru, the trains underwent a 20-day testing and commissioning process before being cleared for passenger operations, officials said.

The Yellow Line, one of Bengaluru’s key metro corridors, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10, 2025, and opened to the public the following day. The corridor connects the city’s southern neighbourhoods and Electronics City with the wider Namma Metro network.

Each train operating on the line is equipped with Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology, enabling driverless operations a first for Namma Metro.

Although the CBTC system has the capability to reduce headways between trains from the current 150 seconds to 90 seconds, services are presently being operated manually by trained train operators. Once full CBTC functionality is implemented, the system is expected to improve operational efficiency and allow for more frequent services on the corridor.
