Kerala Police formally launched its Centre of Excellence project that aims to transform various battalions of Kerala Police into centres of excellence in areas of current relevance.

The initiative is intended to help police personnel overcome the various challenges they face in modern policing through specialised training.

In the initial phase, selected master trainers from different battalions will be imparted training in pre-identified subjects. They will subsequently impart training to other personnel, and thereby enable battalions to receive high-quality training in various fields.

The key objectives of the project include preparing battalion personnel for local police station duties, developing the individual capabilities of personnel by utilising geographical advantages, ensuring uniformity in training across battalions, implementing continuous training programmes, formulating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), promoting practical and case study-based training, and establishing a dedicated wing for research and innovation.

The initiative will be implemented in ten units including the Special Armed Police, Kerala Armed Police Battalions I to V, Rapid Response and Rescue Force, Malabar Special Police, India Reserve Battalion and Armed Women Police Battalion.

Inaugurating the project at the Armed Police headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday, State Police Chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar emphasised the need for a police force that is equipped with professional knowledge in subjects of contemporary relevance at a time when the nature of crime continues to evolve.
