About the original Masoom

For those who may not know, Shekhar Kapur made his directorial debut with the 1983 film Masoom, which features Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Saeed Jaffrey, Tanuja and Supriya Pathak in key roles. Whereas Urmila Matondkar, Aradhana and Jugal Hansraj featured in the film as child actors.

Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awardee Shekhar Kapur is best known for his films like Elizabeth, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Bandit Queen and The Four Feathers.

About Masoom: The New Generation

Recently, Shekhar Kapur and music maestro AR Rahman announced that they are coming together for a contemporary reimagining of Kapur’s beloved 1983 classic, Masoom: The New Generation, which will explore themes such as identity, family, love and migration through a modern-day perspective while retaining the emotional core of the original.

Notably, the film is now in production, and it features Manoj Bajpayee, Nithya Menen and Shekhar Kapur’s daughter Kaveri Kapur in key roles.
