Fifteen workers were rescued after a metal slab collapsed at site under construction in the Kudasan area of Gandhinagar on Wednesday (September 9, 2026) night, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said, adding that the debris-clearing operation would continue through the night to ensure that no one remained trapped.

Mr. Sanghavi said 12 of the rescued workers were admitted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, while three others who did not suffer major injuries were discharged.

“According to the report received just five minutes ago from the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital Superintendent, all 12 individuals currently hospitalised are safe, and none are in critical condition,” he said at the accident site.

The accident occurred around 9 p.m. at the an construction site in the Kudasan area of Gandhinagar when a large metal slab collapsed during ongoing construction work.

According to the Gandhinagar police control room, firefighters, police and the local administration were carrying out rescue operations at the site as labourers claimed that several persons were working on the metal structure and might have been trapped in the debris.

More than four fire brigades rushed to the spot after being alerted about the incident and launched a rescue operation. Ambulances were also deployed to provide immediate medical assistance to those rescued.

“Five persons have been shifted at the hospital for treatment so far. A team of doctors is taking care of them. Some of them have received fractures on their back and on leg. Doctors will take a call if there is need to operate them,” Health Minister Praful Pansheriya told reporters at the Gandhinagar Civil hospital.

A firefighter said that a large crane and electric cutters were being used to remove the metal debris and check whether other workers were still trapped underneath.

The exact number of workers trapped under the collapsed metal structure was not immediately clear, officials said.
