A private paint factory was destroyed in a major fire at Chembarakky near Vazhakulam, Kunnathunad, on Friday. The manufacturing unit was functioning from the Industrial Development Area at Keenpadi, South Vazhakulam. No one was injured in the accident. The building and the raw materials were completely destroyed. The fire broke out around 7.30 p.m.

Rescue units from Perumbavoor, Pattimattom, Aluva, Angamaly and Eloor fire stations doused the blaze in an operation that lasted around three hours, an officer with the Perumbavoor station said. The combustible nature of the materials and lack of adequate firefighting measures reportedly made the operation difficult.

The fire broke out after all employees left the premises in the evening. The cause of the blaze was yet to be ascertained.
