Vehicle patrol on highways to be enhanced in Tirupati

In view of the general rise in road accidents, the district administration has taken up measures to increase the vehicle patrol on highways leading to Tirupati.

The Tirupati district police received special road safety equipment and drug testing kits, which are meant to be used on the highways and on mobile patrol vehicles. District Collector S. Venkateswar and Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu handed over the same to the police personnel engaged on highway surveillance duty on Wednesday.

The staff of the five mobile traffic road safety vehicles received safety reflective jackets, traffic baton lights, safety traffic cones, radium reflective tape rolls, besides water bottles, sunglasses, caps and torchlights. Drug testing kits were handed over to the police, who were also explained of its usage.

Mr. Venkateswar announced that 43 black spots had been identified on highways in the district, while protective measures like laying speed breakers, warning boards and radium signals were taken up in 20 of them.

Mr. Subbarayudu said 4,500 kg of ganja was seized and destroyed last month, and 10,000 units of rapid ganja testing kits were handed over to the department.
