The 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana began with a grand cultural procession in Mandya on Friday, with Go.Ru. Channabasappa, president of the sammelana, seated in a chariot, leading the procession.

The procession was flagged off by Nirmalanandanatha Swami of Sri Adichunchanagiri Mutt near Visvesvaraya statue, in the presence of Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy and Kannada Sahitya Parishath president Mahesh Joshi. Jnanpith Award winner Chandrashekar Kambar and poet Doddarange Gowda were among the other participants.

Hundreds of people, including writers, artists, schoolchildren, and government officials marched for 6 km waving yellow-red flags and banners.

A carnival-like atmosphere prevailed all through the procession route. Hundreds of artistes showcased Kamsaale, Dollu Kunitha, Pooja Kunitha, Veeragaase, Nandi Dhwaja, Navilu Kunitha, Bombe Kunitha, Nagari, and Kangeelu Kunitha during the procession.

There were hundreds of artists with various cultural troupes showcasing Kamsaale, Dollu Kunitha, Pooja Kunitha, Veeragaase, Nandi Dhwaja, Navilu Kunitha, Bombe Kunitha, Nagari, Kangeelu Kunitha, and other performances. A carnival-like atmosphere prevailed all through the procession route.

People and children were busy taking selfies with the dolls and artists painted in rich colours. Throughout the main streets, school students were waving flags to welcome the troupes.

The sammelana, being held in Mandya after 30 years, concludes on Sunday.
