Six people, including a police sub-inspector, lost their lives and 21 others were injured on Tuesday (May 26, 2026) when a double-decker AC bus overturned on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in the Unnao district. The incident occurred at 5.15 a.m. near Nibha Kheda village while the bus was en route from Delhi to Bihar with approximately 50 passengers aboard. The preliminary investigation suggests that the driver lost control after falling asleep at the wheel. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the bus was traveling at a high speed when it collided with the divider and overturned.

The vehicle eventually lodged itself in the roadside railing, resulting in several passengers being ejected through the windows. Police and rescue teams transported the injured to government hospitals. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the incident. “The loss of life in the unfortunate road accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Unnao district is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. My condolences are with the bereaved family. We pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant salvation to the departed souls, strength to the bereaved families to bear this immense grief and speedy recovery for the injured,” Mr. Adityanath wrote on X.
