Namma Metro services on Bengaluru’s Whitefield line were temporarily disrupted after a tree branch fell on the track between ITPL and Sathya Sai Hospital stations as rain lashed Bengaluru on Tuesday evening.

According to BMRCL Chief PRO B.L. Yeshwanth Chavan, train movement between Whitefield and Garudachar Palya stations was suspended from 6 p.m. to 6.35 p.m. due to the obstruction on the track.

The disruption affected commuters travelling on the Purple Line during peak evening hours. BMRCL officials cleared the fallen branch and restored operations shortly after.

“Trains are running between Whitefield and Challaghatta as usual,” Mr. Chavan said, confirming that normal metro services had resumed following the brief interruption.

The rains brought traffic to a crawl as several roads and underpasses were left flooded. Over four trees were uprooted and several branches snapped, according to the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).

Several junctions, including ITI Junction towards ITPL, Ashwathnagar Junction towards Sanjaynagar, Veerannapalya Junction towards Nagawara, and Shantinikethan Junction towards Hope Farm, experienced slow-moving traffic due to flooding.

Tree falls at the Kasturinagar overpass downramp towards Ramamurthynagar, Sanjaynagar Main Road, and the service road of Old Madras Road disrupted traffic.

Apart from these incidents, flooding was reported at Hebbal Flyover up ramp towards the city, Chickpete Circle towards Sultanpete, Pipe Garden towards Kundalahalli, Yeshwanthapura towards Goraguntepalya, Varthur Kodi Road towards Whitefield, BGS Flyover, Binny Mill Underpass, and Jayamahal Road, among others.

HAL Airport Road also witnessed slow-moving traffic, which was worsened by the underpass work at Wind Tunnel Junction.
