The Government of Tamil Nadu has issued an order permitting all movie theatres across the state to screen five shows daily for the first seven days from the release date of a new Tamil film.

Additionally, theatres are allowed to run five daily shows on local festival days, public holidays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has directed that no separate permission from the government or licensing authorities is required for this purpose.

Representatives from the film industry recently met with Mr. Vijay and placed several demands before him. Chief among them was the request to allow five shows per day for all movies in theatres across the State. Currently, theatres in Tamil Nadu operate four shows everyday. Under existing rules, to screen an additional special show (making it five shows a day) on local festival days or public holidays, separate special permission had to be obtained.

In response to the film industry’s requests, an amendment has been made to the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Rules.

Accordingly, it has been announced that all theatres in Tamil Nadu are permitted to screen five shows daily for seven days from the release date of newly released Tamil films, as well as on local festival days, public holidays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
