Irked over alleged the delay in paddy and maize procurement, a group of aggrieved farmers locked the main gate of the Agriculture Market Yard in Karimnagar on Monday.

The agitated farmers staged a sit-in at the entrance gate of the agriculture market protesting against what they termed apathy of the market officials concerned in addressing the maize procurement issues.

They entered into an argument with the staff concerned blaming ‘official apathy’ for the ‘inordinate delay’ in procurement and lifting of their maize produce.

Some aggrieved farmers alleged that they had been waiting for more than two weeks for procurement of maize amid severe heatwave conditions.

They demanded that the authorities concerned take immediate steps to ensure procurement of their unsold maize lying at the agriculture market without ‘further delay’.
