The cadres of Congress party farmers’ wing staged a protest at Prakasam Bhavan in Ongole on Monday. They demanded the State government to ensure adequate supply of fertilizers to the farmers immediately at MRPs and in required quantities.

Alleging artificial shortage of urea by the dealers, Prakasam District Kisan Congress chairman K. Subba Rao said, “The farmers across the district as well as the State are facing problems during the last three months due to lack of sufficient quantities of urea for the cultivation of crops.”

“While the cost of subsidised urea is ₹266 per 50-kg bag, the dealers are selling it at ₹400-500 to the farmers. The State government should take appropriate steps to provide the urea at subsidy rates,” he demanded.
