The Muvattupuzha police have launched an investigation after an elderly woman was allegedly robbed of gold ornaments worth approximately ₹11.6 lakh on Sunday (May 24, 2026). The valuables were stolen from Mariyamma Paily, 86, a bedridden patient.

According to the first information report, an unidentified accused allegedly trespassed into Ms. Mariyamma’s bedroom and forcefully locked her domestic help inside a bathroom before stealing the ornaments the victim was wearing. The stolen ornaments include four bangles, a necklace and a locket. The incident happened around 8:20 a.m. when Ms. Mariyamma’s relatives, who live in the neighbourhood, had gone to the church. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Ms. Mariyamma’s brother.

The case has been registered under charges including wrongful confinement, house-trespass and robbery under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
