The proposals for electricity and drinking water to the tribal areas on the forest fringes in Chamarajanagar district have received the green signal from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav has communicated the information regarding the clearance of the proposals to Chamarajanagar’s Lok Sabha MP Sunil Bose.

In the communication, Mr. Yadav has referred to Mr. Bose about his letter seeking approvals for the proposals to provide electricity and drinking water to forest fringe villages and tribal settlements in Chamarajanagar district and said the proposal pertaining to electricity connections had been recommended at the 90th meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Board for Wildlife (SCNBWL) held on March 21, 2026.

As a result the tribal families, who have been living in darkness for decades are expected to get electricity soon, said a statement here.

Similarly, referring to the proposals for drinking water, Mr. Yadav said the project to supply drinking water through tap water connections to Palar habitation had been approved at the 88th meeting of the SCNBWL.

The Union Minister has assured that proposals for drinking water projects in other pending villages in the constituency will be taken up for consideration at the forthcoming meeting of the SCNBWL.

The statement said development works in forest-fringe areas had been delayed due to stringent rules under the Wildlife Act. “Now, as a result of the sustained efforts of MP Sunil Bose, early approval has been received from the Union Ministry. The MP has thanked the Union Minister on behalf of the people of the district,” the statement added.
