One arrested for attempting to sell Grey Francolins

The Kollegal CID Police Forest Mobile Squad has arrested a 43-year-old man for attempting to illegally sell Grey Francolins, called Goujala Hakki in Kannada, on the outskirts of Dasanapura village in Kollegal taluk near here on Thursday.

After receiving a tip off that Grey Francolins were being illegally sold by the roadside on the outskirts of Dasanapura village, the CID Police Forest Mobile squad raided the place around 7.30 a.m. on Thursday and found a person attempting to sell the birds kept in cages by the roadside.

The members of the squad took the accused Madesha, a resident of Medhini village in T. Narsipura taluk, into custody and seized the property including 12 Grey Francolins and three cages in which the birds were illegally confined.

A case has been registered and further legal action has been initiated, said a press statement. The public are requested to report any illegal activities related to the Forest Act and the Wildlife Protection Act to the office of the Superintendent of Police, Madikeri CID Forest Cell: 9480800220, CID Police Forest Mobile Squad, Mysuru Office: 9741209859.
