Lucknow:

There’s some good news for millions of Uttar Pradesh state employees and pensioners: the government has announced a 2 per cent increase in dearness allowance (DA), raising it from 58 per cent to 60 per cent. The formal order in this regard has been issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) Deepak Kumar.

16 lakh employees to be benefited

This decision by the Uttar Pradesh government will benefit approximately 16 lakh government employees, teachers, and pensioners. The increased dearness allowance is expected to provide relief to employees’ incomes amid rising inflationary pressures.

Employees are likely to get an increased salary in June

The government is preparing to provide the increased DA benefits with the May 2026 salary. Since salaries for May are credited to employees’ accounts in early June, this will directly affect their June salaries. Employees’ salaries will be higher than before.

Effective from January 1, 2026

The government has clarified that this DA increase will be effective from January 1, 2026. This means that employees will benefit not only from their future salary, but also from arrears from previous months. Arrears for the four months from January 2026 to April 2026 will be deposited into employees’ General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts. From May 2026, 60 per cent of the DA will be directly added to their salaries in cash.

Pensioners also benefit

This decision will also provide relief to pensioners. The increased DA will be added to their monthly pension in cash, thereby increasing their monthly income.

The state took action after the central government’s decision

It is worth noting that the central government issued an order on April 22, 2026, for a 2% increase in DA for its employees. Following this, the Uttar Pradesh government also accelerated preparations to provide similar benefits to its employees.
