In a reported case of moral policing at Indiranagar layout in Kanakapura on Saturday, a group of men allegedly assaulted their female relative and a man from a different community, before partially shaving their heads in public.

The police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Five among the seven accused were arrested after the police charged them under various sections of the BNS.

The victim, a mother of one, got married 15 years ago. However, she separated from her husband six months ago after the latter got to know about her alleged affair with a fisherman, who hailed from a different community..

On Friday, family members of the woman reportedly found her at the house of the fisherman. Following this, they dragged the duo outside onto the road, assaulted them with slippers, and tonsured their heads partially.

After being informed about the incident, the police rushed to the spot and arrested five men.The women of the family were questioned and their statements recorded.

The victims were taken to a hospital for treatment. The woman was sent to a rehabilitation centre for counselling. The police also recorded the statements of both the victims and registered two cases against the accused.

As a precautionary measure, the police deployed additional force to ensure law and order and conducted a peace meeting comprising the families involved and community members.
