Passing an unanimous resolution supporting Edappadi K. Palaniswami as party leader, the AIADMK district unit on Sunday (May 17, 2026) said that over one crore voters had cast their votes for the party’s ‘two leaves’ symbol in the recently concluded general elections.

Presiding over a party workers’ meeting, AIADMK district secretary K.T. Rajenthra Bhalaji said the party high command would take care of the recent developments involving some of the MLAs. The people and the party workers are with Mr. Palaniswami. He will definitely bring back the lost sheen to the party soon.”

On the victory of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), he said that many surveys had favoured the AIADMK front. A sudden change in the last four to seven days had led to such a disaster. The TVK might have defeated its rivals, but he raised doubts over the party’s inexperienced elected representatives. “This government may not last long. It came with the wind and, in the same way, it will vanish.”

The AIADMK was the only party that would be concerned for the people, and irrespective of whether in power or not, it would raise its voice for the welfare of the common man. The district unit of the party had full faith in Mr Palaniswami.

Though the AIADMK won 47 seats, over 1 crore people had faith in the party, he said and was confident that they would bounce back soon. The TVK took away the vote share of AIADMK and BJP, while the DMK had managed to keep its vote bank intact.

He appealed to the workers to be patient and calm. “Let us not get into any diversions, but work for the growth of the party,” he added.
