The Kerala Malsya Thozhilali Aikyavedi (TUCI) has urged the government to adopt a more responsible approach to ensure protection of and compensation to the fisheries sector in the wake of the findings of the Centre for Marine Living Resources and Ecology (CMLRE) on the ecological impact of the MSC ELSA 3 shipwreck off the Kerala coast.

The forum said that the findings by the CMLRE, under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, on the ecological impacts of the shipwreck were very serious. The forum has urged the government to examine the gravity of the findings and take legal and preventive measures based on the report.

“Fishing nets are still being damaged by getting stuck on containers that came off the ship. The government has not taken a responsible stand even in court,” Charles George, State president of the forum, said in a statement on Sunday (September 21, 2025).
