Police have arrested a 50-year-old man who murdered his 17-year-old daughter allegedly after opposing plans to marry her to a relative of his wife.

The incident was reported from Nimbenahalli village in the limits of the Kallambella Police Station.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Thimmarayappa, opposed a proposal to marry off his minor daughter to one of his wife’s relatives after she turned 18.

The police said frequent quarrels had erupted between the couple over the issue, as the girl’s mother was reportedly adamant about the alliance.

In a fit of rage, Thimmarayappa allegedly took his daughter near a well close to their house, pushed her into it and dropped a big stone on her to ensure her death.

The police said the accused later retrieved the body from the well and buried it in an isolated spot before returning home.

He then allegedly acted as if the girl had gone missing.

After the family failed to trace the teenager, a missing complaint was lodged with the police. During the investigation, officers found that the girl was last seen with her father.

Growing suspicious, the police detained Thimmarayappa for questioning. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the crime and revealed the location where the body had been buried.

The police subsequently exhumed the body and sent it for post-mortem examination on Sunday. The accused has been taken into custody for further questioning.
