The annual ‘Tirupati Gangamma Jatara’ in Kuppam will begin on Monday (May 18, 2026) and conclude on Wednesday (May 20). Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who is scheduled to arrive in Kuppam on Tuesday evening (May 19), will offer silk vastrams to the presiding deity on Wednesday during the concluding rituals.
The police and district administration are making elaborate arrangements for the three-day festival, which draws over five lakh devotees from all over Chittoor district and the neighbouring States of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The cultural events for the three-century-old jatara, considered one of the most prominent local religious festivals in the tri-state region, have already begun.
A major attraction of the jatara will be the traditional procession of the deity’s head symbolising Goddess Shakti. The procession will move through the main streets of Kuppam for several hours before returning to the temple during the concluding ceremonies on May 20. The Agnigundam ritual, where devotees walk across burning embers, will also be held as part of the festivities.
Police and revenue officials have intensified security, traffic regulation, and crowd management measures for the event, with more than 500 police personnel deployed throughout the town and surrounding areas.
