Traffic police crack down on drunk driving, overspeeding

The city traffic police have booked as many as 579 drunk driving cases during a special enforcement drive conducted across Bengaluru from May 4 to May 10.

The special drive, carried out by personnel from all 53 traffic police stations in the city, was aimed at improving road safety and curbing violations such as drunken driving, overspeeding or rash driving, which are among the leading causes of road accidents in the city.

During the campaign against drunk driving, the traffic police checked 45,272 vehicles of various categories and registered 579 cases against motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol.

In a parallel drive against overspeeding, police registered 179 cases and collected fines worth ₹1.80 lakh.

The police said similar special drives will continue in the coming days to ensure safer roads and strict compliance with traffic regulations.
