The Backward Classes Welfare Hostels in Andhra Pradesh have emerged as the top-performing welfare hostels in the State, according to the government’s Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) based on a parent feedback survey.

A statement issued by BC Welfare Minister S. Savitha’s office on Saturday said that the survey revealed a satisfaction rate of 78.20% for BC hostels, placing them ahead of other welfare hostel categories. Officials attributed this improvement to the government’s focus on strengthening educational support, infrastructure, nutrition, and student welfare.

The coalition government, after assuming office, had cleared the pending diet bill worth ₹110 crore left by the previous government and have since ensured timely payment of diet and cosmetic charges.

Over ₹100 crore has been spent on hostel building repairs and infrastructure development during the last 23 months. Measures such as installation of RO plants, inverters, mosquito screens, sanitation facilities, and digital learning centers had significantly improved living conditions for students, the release said.

Introduction of Face Recognition System (FRS)-based attendance in BC hostels for both students and staff reportedly saved over ₹6 crore annually by preventing misuse of resources and improving monitoring. The HPTS mobile application was launched to strengthen supervision, enabling officials to track menu implementation, sanitation, drinking water facilities and hostel maintenance through daily photo uploads.

In academics, BC hostel students achieved an impressive 85.99% pass percentage in the recent Class 10 examinations.
