Mahesh Tenginakai, Hubballi Dharwad Central MLA, who reviewed the progress of the elevated road project around Kittur Chennamma Circle in Hubballi on Friday (May 8), said that the elevated road is likely to be opened for traffic by December-end.
Speaking to presspersons after walking on the stretch between Old Court Circle to Hosur Circle in Hubballi on May 8, Mr. Tenginakai said that already, 70% of the flyover work had been completed and the remaining will be completed in a couple of months, and by December end, the concrete road beneath the flyover, illumination, and other works would be completed.
The MLA also performed bhoomi puja for the concrete road opposite the IT Park in Hubballi during his inspection and said that the road work would be completed within four months.
Mr. Tenginakai told presspersons that a delegation led by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and sought additional funds for laying concrete roads beneath the elevated road. Responding to their plea, Mr. Gadkari had sanctioned ₹13 cr of additional grants.
He said that officials had told him the concrete road work between IT Park and Old Bus Station would be completed within 15 days, in addition to the road between Old Bus Station and Bhavani Arcade. The works for laying the concrete road near Old Court Circle had also simultaneously begun, he said.
“Out of the 294 girders to be installed for the elevated road, 262 have already been installed and another 32 girders are yet to be installed. This apart, 25 more girders are being readied. As box girders have to be readied at Kittur Chennamma Circle, traffic at the junction will be affected. Our efforts are under way to exert more pressure on the contractor to expedite the work further and complete the work at the earliest,” he said.
Mr. Tenginakai also said that the Public Works Department officials had promised him that the work to lay concrete roads at important junctions would be completed within a month and a half.
The MLA was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Santosh Chavan, Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation councillor Meenakshi Vantamuri, Deputy Commissioner of Police C.R. Raveen, National Highways Authority of India executive engineer Satish Naganur, Municipal Commissioner Rudresh Ghali, and others were present.
