In the northern districts, the Dravidian majors — DMK and AIADMK — won many seats with the TVK continuing with its giant killer act but had to be content with lesser number of seats compared to Chennai and its surrounding districts.

In another shocker, senior Minister and DMK general secretary Duraimurugan was pushed to third place in Katpadi Assembly constituency. After winning consecutive elections since 1996 Tamil Nadu Assembly poll, he ran out of luck this time with TVK candidate Dr. M. Sudhakar securing a total of 69,868 votes. AIADMK’s V. Ramu secured 63,998 votes and finished second while Mr. Duraimurugan, who got 62,225 votes, was placed third.
