Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) legal wing vice-president S.K. Nawaz has opposed the enrolment of A.G. Perarivalan, a convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, in the Bar Association of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, allowing him to practice as an advocate at the Madras High Court.
Condemning the development, Mr. Nawaz urged the Bar Council to remove him and debar him from practising as a lawyer.
“We urge the Bar Council to debar Perarivalan and his enrolment must be immediately cancelled. Someone who was convicted of assassinating a former Prime Minister should never have been enrolled. The Bar Council should have sought the opinion of Additional Advocate General. We condemn it. We hope the Bar Council reconsiders its decision,” Mr. Nawaz said, adding that: “He was in cahoots with a terror group which assassinated the former Prime Minister. He was convicted. We will fight this legally.”
