As many as 37 students of a Government Middle School at Jambai near Kallakurichi fell ill reportedly after consuming the midday meal served on the premises on Monday (September 8, 2025). According to official sources, a lizard was found in the food.

The meal, prepared for 89 children, was served around noon, and a few children complained of nausea and vomiting after consuming it. They were taken to the Manalurpettai primary health centre and the Tiruvannamalai Government Hospital, and were kept under observation.

Their condition is now stable and they have been discharged, an official said.
