The Maharashtra government on Friday (May 1, 2026) inaugurated the much-anticipated “Missing Link” project of Mumbai-Pune Expressway aiming to cut travel time and bypass the risky ghat section near Lonavala in Maval district. However, the launch event also coincided with heavy traffic in the Bhor Ghat triggered due to car breakdowns and commuters travelling ahead of a long weekend.
Speaking to The Hindu, the Highway Traffic Police Department reasoned that the traffic piled up because of a breakdown of many cars due to extreme heat, and the long weekend.
