The Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (K-SOTTO), as part of its efforts to promote deceased donor organ donation, is organising a workshop for doctors on the determination of brain death.

The workshop will be held on September 20, Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Medical College Diamond Jubilee Auditorium.

The Director of Medical Education, K.V. Viswanathan, will inaugurate the programme. K-SOTTO Executive Director, S.S. Noble Gracious, will preside.

The workshop is intended to equip doctors to accurately report instances of brain death in ICUs across the State, thereby making the organ donation process more effective. Detailed training will be provided on the procedures for confirming brain death as per the norms laid down in the 2020 Government Order, and on counselling families, while seeking their consent for organ donation thereafter.

The resource persons include Deepak Kumar Gupta, Professor of Neurosurgery at AIIMS, New Delhi; Ajay Prasad Hrishi, Additional Professor of Neuro Anesthesia at SCTIMST, Thiruvananthapuram; H.V. Easwar, Head of Neurosurgery, SCTIMST; Anil Satyadas, Professor and Head of Critical Care, Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, Deepa Das, Senior Consultant in Critical Care, KIMSHEALTH. Ajith Joy, Kerala High Court lawyer and K-SOTTO’s legal advisor, will speak on the role of doctors under THO Act.
