Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy, who demits office on Thursday, is tipped to be appointed as Telangana’s State Security Advisor in the rank of Chief Secretary. An official order is expected shortly, multiple sources in the police force and government confirmed.

The move comes a day after the government named 1991 batch IPS officer C.V. Anand as the new DGP. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is understood to have decided to draw on Mr. Shivadhar Reddy’s vast experience to guide the administration on law and order and internal security matters. It may be recalled that during the BRS regime, former DGP Anurag Sharma was appointed Advisor to the Government on Police, Law & Order, and Crime Control soon after his retirement in 2017. His tenure was extended in 2020, and he continued until December 2023, when the Congress government rescinded all advisor appointments. Since assuming office, the Congress government has appointed several advisors, but none exclusively on security affairs. Mr. Shivadhar Reddy’s appointment will be the first such position created for a retired IPS officer.
