For Jomy Josy Maliakal, a lawyer by profession, her introduction to standup comedy was through comedian Abish Mathew’s talk show, Son of Abish, a few years ago. Little did she know that she would take the stage with him in front of 800 people, in two lineup shows featuring some of the prominent comedic voices in the country like Kenny Sebastian and Shamik Chakrabarti, at the Opening Night Show of the inaugural edition of the Kochi Comedy Festival. Organised by Comedy Lounge Kochi, the event took place at the KINFRA International Convention Centre at Kakkanad on April 19, marking the beginning of a month-long comedy carnival.

The lineup features a mix of comedians from across the country, including Gautham Govindan, and Anand Rathnam, alongside homegrown artistes such as Vishnu Pai, Abhishek Murali, Geoffery Shocky, Athul John, and Akshay Joyal. They will be performing their one-hour specials on weekends at Spotlight Socials in Kochi until May 16 as part of the festival.
