The Tamil Nadu State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (TNSCSCST) on Monday (April 27, 2026) called for a detailed action report from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on the reported poll boycott by residents of a ward in the Srivilliputhur Assembly constituency, over the failure of authorities in changing its caste-based name.

In a communication, TNSCSCST vice-chairperson Imayam, alias V. Annamalai, referred to a G.O. issued by the Municipal Administration and Water Supply (MAWS) Department in October 2025, framing guidelines for the removal/renaming of caste names in the titles of residential areas, streets, roads, waterbodies, revenue villages, among others.
